Hello ladies, and maybe gents!
Today, I decided I needed a new pair of feather earrings. To pay $65 dollars at Urban, or make my own?
Yeah, I definately decided to make my own.
Usually I may just cave in and buy a pair, but today I thought I'd take a stab at the jewelry thing. Cant be that hard right?
Its not!
All you need are:
feathers. (naturally. I mean, they are feather earrings)
earring clasps or studs (however you want to wear them!) - You can find these easily at Michaels.
Needle nose pliers
and flexible jewelry wire!
1. first you pick the feathers you love!
Arrange them in a way that allows them to fall in a somewhat natural way. This part isn't as easy as it sounds, those pesky little things really can make your life difficult. Once you arrange the feathers, set them aside and grab the wire.
2. Cut some wire!
Cut about a foot of wire to use. Create a loop at one end and line it up to the feather bunch just so the top of the loop peeks out over the top of the feather bundle.
(following me?)
Then tightly, but delicately wrap the wire around the feather bundle all the way to the top. You can cover as much or as little area as you want here, just make sure it is secure.
3. Grab the pliers!
Open the end of the jewelry clasp/ring/ whichever type you get, using the pliers. If you are a woman, you will know where the jewelry end is. Its in your blood, trust those instincts.
4. Slide the wired loop on to the clasp, tighten again, and voila!
Let me know what you think of mine, and share pictures of yours if you decide to try it!
First of all, this looks amazing! Especially the last picture!:) But you forgot to mention one small thing: how much these earrings cost you eventually (I mean, you had to buy the feathers, the wire, the tools). Anyway, great job!
